In the January winter edition, a great innovation was launched at Pitti Bimbo: the new N°21 Kids Collection. Let us have a chat with the designer, Alessandro Dell’Acqua:

Alessandro, you design the women’s and men’s lines for N°21. Why jump into a new adventure with children?

The N°21 Kids collection was created through the many requests received from clients, friends, and trusted stores and, in addition, as a further challenge towards broadening the world of N°21.

Is it the first time you design a children’s collection? How was this 2016-17 Fall-Winter Kid’s collection for N°21 created?

It is the first children’s collection I’ve designed. For me, it is important to create a dialogue among the men’s, women’s, and children’s collections: the characteristic features of the N°21 brand must be found in all of these.

Compared to other children’s collections, what is new or different in the approach towards the world of children’s fashion in N°21 Kids?

The starting point for me was the use of shapes and materials already present in the men’s and women’s collections, with special attention towards fit. Children need to feel very free in what they wear and be able to express their personality also through what they wear.

Is there something from the DNA of women’s and men’s N°21 in this kid’s line?

The unexpected combination of fabrics, the mix of masculine and feminine, a search for the right materials, without ever forgetting the need for comfort and the element of color.

In choosing a partner for producing the collection, what led you to the Grant company?

Grant is a company that has a very long experience in children’s wear. With this team, I share the ongoing desire to innovate through new techniques and new ways of shaping and mixing various fabrics.

And now a few questions for Alessandro Dell’Acqua child.

How did you dress when you were a child? Who would choose your clothes? Did you have a favorite piece?

As a child I preferred a casual style, the classic pieces of a male wardrobe, like sweatshirts, jeans, and duffel coats.

What was your favorite game to play?

I spent a lot of time watching television. My dream was to become an actor, but I was too shy, and acting school was too expensive.

A fond memory from your childhood?

Almost every day, my grandfather would take me to the movies. Even, today, it is my great passion. Those were the years of the neorealist Italian cinema, which still inspires my collections.
