Barnaba Fornasetti and the Mad

Barnaba Fornasetti receives the MAD Visionaries! Award, an accolade that celebrates innovation, excellence and creativity in the field of art and design.

The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) in New York presents Barnaba Fornasetti with the Visionaries! Award. Following Zaha Hadid, Marcel Wanders,  Ron Arad, and Angela Missoni, the Fornasetti artistic director joins this pantheon of visionaries.
For over twenty years, MAD has celebrated leaders and luminaries who stand out “for their transformative ideas in the sphere of contemporary craft”. As head curator Shannon R. Stratton points out, MAD has a long history of supporting artists who work in disciplines commonly known as “craft”, and the prizewinners represent a generation of artists exploring this tool of creative expression, as well as its masters and supporters.
This year’s
awards ceremony and gala ball takes place at the Cipriani in New York, and also celebrates the conclusion of MAD’s Diamond Jubilee year.
The
committee is made up of Iris Apfel, Andi Potamkin Blackmore, Jerome A. Chazen, Michele Cohen, Melissa Urfirer Gottesman, Shari Siadat Loeffler, Angela Missoni, Linda Plattus, and Barbara Tober.

“Decoration can convey a message of culture
and for me, the MAD Visionaries! Award is a recognition of this” –
