From the ordinary to the extraordinary

by Peppe Orrù

An intriguing exhibition in Tokyo explores the different factors that make up an athlete

The fascinating ‘Athlete’ exhibition explores the factors that make ordinary actions become extraordinary achievements within the world of sports.

Examining physical and mental aspects of different athletes in different sport disciplines alongside the design elements of sport apparel and equipment, ‘Athlete’ is an interacting experience about what makes some human beings achieve what is unachievable for most people.

“Being an athlete meant performing actions in their ultimate form” explained Dai Tamesue, the Japanese track and field athlete and one of the exhibition directors together with Hisato Ogata and Syunichi Suge.

‘Athlete’ is at 21_21 Design Sight, the exhibition space founded by Issey Miyake and dedicated to all aspect of design, until June 4th.

Much of the content relating to the exhibition is available online on www.2121designsight.jp
