A stormy summer afternoon sky inspired the colour choices of the Spring/Summer 2016 collection by Omibia, which not coincidentally is called “Summer Storm’. The brand founded by Mercedes Bermudez offers dark shades of grey mixed with softer pale ivory while delicate shades of salmon and vanilla cream nod to an overcast and hidden sun. These sweet vintage colours help to create a refined and elegant collection that properly takes in consideration the fabrics of which it is made. Pure natural tones enhance the materials and the folds of organic cloths, also highlighting the natural dyeing processes and low environmental impact with which they were developed. The handmade and hand-dyed lace edges, the GOTS certified mother of pearl buttons, the delicate embroideries do not dominate but accentuate the integrity of each garment. The overall result is just like the fresh and clean aftermath of a summer storm: the dust has settled, the air has been revitalised. A sense of freshness and comfort characterizes the collection where comfortable shorts, wide trousers and full skirts are perfectly and effortlessly combined with printed T-shirts. A collection where all pieces are minimalist and timeless. Graduated at Central Saint Martins in London in 1994, the same year as, among others, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney and Hussein Chalayam, Mercedes Bermudez immediately caught the attention of fashion houses and designers such as Katharine Hamnett and John Galliano until in 2011 she launched her own brand Omibia, a word that means “pure life”. Motherhood coincided with a renewed awareness about what we eat, wear and, more generally, how we live. Her greatest discovery was “the importance of following the natural processes of things”
