Raja El Rayes Haute Couture s/s18
Profoundly tied to her land, Libyan designer Raja El Rayes, creative director at Rujji, combines modernity and tradition in her creations. Her collection is a journey to a mountainous place in the Sahara, Tadrart Acacus. Listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, its importance lies in the rock paintings and engravings found there, the oldest dating back to 21,000 BC. With regard to the images represented, Italian researcher Fabrizio Mori once stated that they are a summation of a world made of secrets and passion. Raja’s clothes are a tribute to an area of great cultural value, rich in history, secrets, and beauty that she has imprinted into her pieces.
