The ‘Body, Movement, Structure: contemporary jewels and their construction” exhibition is at MAXXI in Rome until January 14th 2018. Curated by Domitilla Dardi, it is an investigation into the world of contemporary jewellery and the work of some great architects. The designers Giampaolo Babetto, David Bielander, Helen Britton, Peter Chang, Monica Cecchi and Philip Sajet were asked to interpret with new exhibition-specific creations some architectural models, from the MAXXI Architettura collections, by Vittorio De Feo, IaN+, Sergio Musmeci, Pier Luigi Nervi, Maurizio Sacripanti and Carlo Scarpa.

The exhibition, one of many focused on the theme of jewellery taking place in various museums around the world, investigates the relationship among jewellery, beauty, the social and cultural aspects of accessories. Babetto started from Carlo Scarpa’s work while Helen Britton studied the structure of Nervi’s reinforced concrete boat, which was part of an exhibition lat year at the MAXXI. Peter Chang stratified colourful resins while Monica Cecchi applied an almost pop aesthetic to her creation starting from a Vittorio De Feo project for Esso petrol stations.

The not-to-be-missed exhibition emphasises how architecture and jewellery relate to the body in motion, an obvious fact that is often forgotten.
