London Fashion Week men’s preview

SPOTLIGHT ON THE SPRING/SUMMER 2019 MENSWEAR COLLECTIONS AT THE FORTHCOMING EDITION OF LONDON FASHION WEEK MEN’S

Focused primarily on the Spring/Summer 2019 men’s fashion and accessories collections, the forthcoming edition of London Fashion Week Men’s (LFWM) offers a calendar decidedly not as busy as previously. On stage from Friday 8th June to Monday 11th, only 45 fashion shows and presentations compared to more than 70 in June 2017.

Nevertheless, the event offers a more than excellent selection  of designers, brands and labels representing the multi-varied panorama of British menswear. From the classic and formal collections by Kent & Curwen, Mr Start and showing at the St James’s Show collective fashion show to the extremely interesting and fashion-forward new ranges by the likes of Astrid Andersen, Christopher Raeburn, Edward Crutchley, Alex Mullins and Matthew Miller among many others. From the exquisitely intellectual avant-garde by CHALAYAN and the courageously niche proposals by Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY to the trendy basics by Oliver Spencer and the premium sportswear by 3.1 Paradis x PONY and What We Wear.

Focus on new talents thanks to the MAN initiative, under whose aegis three emerging labels will hit the runway, and thanks to the fashion show by the Master in Menswear students at the University of Westminster. The LFWM calendar also offers a number of international brands including Iceberg from Italy, Wood Wood from Denmark, Sharon Wauchob from France, Michiko Koshino from Japan and Xander Zhou, Private Policy and StaffOnly from China.

Worth noting is the absence of Craig Green, one of the best representatives of the new wave of London menswear designers. Green, who debuted in 2013 and who has already earned the Emerging Menswear Designer award in 2014 and the prize of British Menswear Designer in 2016 and 2017 at the British Fashion Awards, has been invited as Guest Designer at the 94th edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo in Florence. Also absent J.W.Anderson, who prefers to opt for a coed formula and send down on the catwalk the men’s collection along with the women’s one during London Fashion Week in September. Vivienne Westwood, Belstaff, Topman, A Band of Outsiders, Nigel Cabourn and Hackett London are also not showing at LFWM this season.
