Andersen’s fairy tales according to Nicoletta, the Origamilano’s designer

Six famous tales by Christian Andersen, the undisputed father of modern fable, are the inspiration behind the origami created by designer Nicoletta Strada of the brand Origamilano. The collection focuses on three themes, the double, the different and the macabre. These themes are developed through a narrative composed of geometric and essential forms.
Each fairy tale is a theme dear to the Danish writer, which is reinterpreted in a contemporary and original way. A collection that, not surprisingly, is designed to demonstrate how 19th century moral tales may reflect important social issues of our times. The tales chosen by Ms. Strada are: “The Ugly Duckling” (symbol of accepting those who are different), “Princess and the Pea” (representing the truth), “Mermaid” (purity), “Snow Queen” (the feeling trapped), “The Tin Soldier” (symbolizing the eternal love) and “Thumbelina” (follow your heart).

This apt combination of design and literature gives the collection a deeper, yet inscrutable meaning. An introspective journey in search of our self and of our deepest desires. The goal of the designer is to tell a story that encompasses all of these symbols through origami architectures that refer to the distinctive elements of the stories that inspired them. From the point of view of colour, the chosen hues are light and dark shades, to express the duality that characterizes each person’s inner self.
