Filippo Laterza vs ten masters of modern and contemporary art
The young fashion designer created ten haute couture looks inspired by as many great visual artists
The notion that art is the means for pure and spontaneous communication inspired the designer Filippo Laterza, who collaborates with Stefano Cavalieri designing the Quis Quis kidswear collection, to choose ten masters of modern and contemporary art to whom he dedicated as many haute couture creations.
Sponsored by the Associazione Internazionale di Via Margutta, the unveiling of the capsule collection took place at Galleria d’Arte Marchetti, an art gallery in the iconic street in Rome focused since 1997 on works by the main representatives of contemporary art. Fashion does not become art until it is able to communicate a message, an idea, an emotion.
The dreamy, fascinating, magic worlds of Sonia Delaunay, Georgia O’Keeffe, Tamara de Lempicka, Yayoi Kusama, Henri Matisse, Lucio Fontana, Kazimir Malevich, Gustav Klimt, Yves Klein and Vincent Van Gogh live once again on dreamlike dresses, created for women who know how to be queens of their own heart. Creativity, skilful craftsmanship, construction mastery shaped ten unique and inimitable small sartorial masterpieces.
Ten iconic creations, made of precious and pure materials such as handprinted pure silk gazar, tulle, taffeta, embellished with decorative details, embroideries, paintings, patchworks. An opportunity to admire an exhibition, as multifaceted and sophisticated as its muses, in the most suggestive street in Rome, Via Margutta, that has always attracted artists. “I dedicated this collection to those who really believed in me. My art and I exist thanks to all of them”, Laterza said.
