Minina and the Japanese art Ukiyo-e

Ukiyo-e, the ancient Japanese art, inspires the Autumn/Winter 2018 collection by Minina. The drawings on the garments are reinterpretations of late 19th century Ukiyo-e art prints and provide a full immersion in a fantastic oriental atmosphere. They also are the background on which cheerful drawings made by children are superimposed, therefore making the Minina prints truly original and special. Gingko biloba leaves become stencils filled with oriental fabrics in deep and dusty colour shades while classic kimono blue stripes are combined with small hand-drawn jackdaws. Refined Scottish wool, warm cottons and velvets in poetic and introspective hues and shades. The blue-grey tones are darker and the range of greens is inspired by the hues of vegetables such as snow peas and olives, whereas ocher and tobacco are combined with delicate pink hues.
