Ethical fashion and women

Dress ethically, choose eco… it’s on everyone’s lips, but what’s really being done about?

Women are those who are most aware when it comes to issues related to production systems in the clothing industry, probably because they’re passionate about fashion and only marginally involved in the actual business, both on a managerial and on a creative level and, therefore, free from compromise.  At the forefront we find Livia Firth, Italian, married to one of Britain’s most famous actors, founder of Eco-Age – a sustainable fashion company – and a real reference point for those involved in this sector who seek alternative ideas or information.  Among her vast and varied initiatives, after having involved the Camera  della Moda Milano ,  with the Italy 2018 Green Carpet Fashion Award event – a competition that challenges young designers from around the world to redefine the concept of sustainability in fashion using the Italian supply chain – Livia has engaged in a wide-ranging project, collaborating with the The Commonwealth Fashion Exchange, an exhibition that showed at Buckingham Palace during London fashion week. A selection of clothes equated by a respect for the principles of sustainability, environment, and ethics, from the 53 countries of the Commonwealth. A true believer of this idea is the crème de la crème of the English aristocracy, from Princess Kate Middleton to Sophie Rhys-Jones Countess of Wessex, entrepreneurs like Nadja Swarovski, designers like Stella McCartney, who are all very sensitive to this topic. The goal: to share, discover, and add value to craftsmanship skills, in order to favor new opportunities on a global scale in a direction that aims at sustainability, not only environmental, but also human. The exhibition will arrive in New York in September.
