Shirt , fashion words
n.
Plural: shirts
Item of clothing, both male and female, which covers the torso. It buttons down the front and may have long or short sleeves. The collar changes according to fashion trends, as does the shape, as well as the fabric used. Of very old origin, it has been mentioned as far back as the Ancient Roman era, and becomes the protagonist of the male wardrobe when – with Louis XV – vests become smaller, and ties make their appearance. Thus, it comes out into the open and reaches its apogee in the 19th century with Dandyism.
Originally, shirts were only worn as undergarments.
