The international jewellers, buyers and journalists who took part in the last edition of the jewellery trade show Vicenzaoro were literally enchanted and fascinated by ‘Homenaje a Tina Modotti’, a work by the artist Gian Carlo Venuto who, following the ancient fresco technique, created an impressive in terms of size – 200 x 400 cm and extremely refined mixed media mural.

The subject is two sinuous round calla flowers held together by a string. As mentioned, the work is a tribute to Tina Modotti, the famous photographer and “pasionaria” from Friuli in Italy, whose entire life was committed to photography and civil responsibility, in occasion of the 120th anniversary of her birth. Venuto reinterpreted the Zantedeschia, the plant commonly called calla that produces a very fleshy flower with a fully rounded opening, capable to convey and transmit all the strength and vitality of being a woman. The calla flower is extremely elegant as it rises towards the sky thanks to its long stem, full of sap and nourished by vital water. It can appear fragile because of its whiteness and yet the plant is a perennial. Modotti immortalized it in several photographs focused on the study of light that have become an important part of international art history.

Diva Gioielli, la nuova collezione Piper's Star

The mural was in the exhibition area of Diva Gioielli, a brand from Friuli that last spring won the Première2017 Award thanks to the design of the Galaxy bracelet. Through the design and production of silver jewellery, the Italian brand interprets and tells the story of a certain part of the feminine contemporary universe: the story of a committed and decisive woman, determined and independent in her decisions. Through the promotion of this artwork, whose different stages are documented on the company website, Diva Gioielli wants to declare the pride in its origins and that it cannot do without the bond with the art and culture of its own homeland.
