Whiting & Davis: 140 years in one collection

The American brand is celebrating with a range of heritage bags its history and its traditions, revisiting them in a contemporary key.

Since 1876 Whiting & Davis has been creating dazzling masterpieces in the shapes of handbags with wire mesh as the  starting point. To celebrate its 140th anniversary, the American company is launching this year a special Heritage Collection that traces the milestones of its glorious history and honours his long and very glamorous tradition in the world of handbags, from the roaring 1920’s to the Studio 54 era, all the way to the red carpets of the present day.

Inspired by its rich heritage of always on-trend handbags, the brand designed this special collection with a distinctly contemporary spirit. All models are perfectly suited for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and many of them are characterized by fringing details and elegant shapes which are very popular in our times as they were a century ago.

The special limited edition collection will be produced only in 2016 in occasion of the anniversary. Each bag bears a commemorative label on the inside on the red lining as well as the Heritage Collection tag.

The ‘Skyline’ cross-body clutch bag, which uses the Art Deco structure “resurrected” from the company archives, shows the famous Manhattan skyline with wire mesh panels of different colours that have been put together to highlight each building and with Swarovski crystals representing the dazzling lights of the city.

The ‘Chandelier’ clutch bag is absolutely lovable thanks to its elegant Art Nouveau structure in matte black mesh, adorned by gold Swarovski crystals and with a classic V at the base with gold metal fringing in the style of Whiting & Davis in the Roaring Twenties.

The ‘Victorian Stripe’ presents a Victorian style structure with an inimitable fringing that comes from classic compact models produced by the early 1920’s. The ‘Poiret Pouch’ is inspired by the famous collaboration with the Parisian designer Paul Poiret in the mid 1920’s. Originally designed by Poiret himself, the pouch has been a Whiting & Davis classic for decades. The updated version is bigger and wider than the original to meet the needs of the 21st century as, for example, the iPhone Plus. The triangular structure on top also comes from the US company archives: the look is accentuated by the splendour of Swarovski crystals
