Fabric in Fashion
AN EXHIBITION IN NEW YORK DEDICATED TO FABRICS AND THEIR INFLUENCE IN WESTERN FASHION OVER THE PAST 250 YEARS
The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York hosts and organizes “Fabric in Fashion”, an exhibition that explores the role played by different types of textiles that had an impact on western fashion over the past 250 years. The intent is to involve the public in considering fabric as a determining element in the artistic creation of clothing and accessories, and in the evolution of taste, shapes, and elegance. The exhibition opens with a look towards garments made of different fabrics, each of these has its own characteristics, its own light, wearability, and also a certain type of connotation. Silk is used to create garments of great elegance, while cotton is associated with the idea of a casual and comfortable style. The use of wool makes it possible to create highly personalized pieces. The advent of synthetic materials inspired and helped designers in creating technical clothing. With an exhibition of over 65 pieces, as well as accessories, “Fabric in Fashion” is an invitation towards discovering the importance of fabric and its influence in creating trendy clothes. The exhibition is organized by curator Elisabeth Way and can be visited until May 4th, 2019 at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.
