A journey through shadow and light

What happens when artists decide to forsake colour, to abandon the investigation of the thousand and one possibilities offered by the infinite combinations of the numberless shades of all different col- ours? They focus on the powerful contrast between black and white, they examine the endless options offered by working within such
strict boundaries. With over 50 artworks created in the course of the last 700 years, the beautifully curated ‘Mono- chrome: Painting in Black and White’ exhibition examines in depth this specific aesthetic choice by artists such as Ingres, van Eyck, Albrecht Dürer, as well as Gerhard Richter, Chuck Close, Bridget Riley, Olafur Eliasson. The exhibition is at the National Gallery in London until the 18th of February 2018.
