Sunburned Passion

Called ‘Passion’, the new collection by Mavì Taten interprets the word as joy and pleasure as well as pain and longing, a feeling so strong that encompasses both suffering and enthusiasm. The image that inspired the new collection is that of the “Grieving Madonna,” devout and suffering for her Child, the highest representation of a powerful emotion, and of her heart, which is often separate, detached or joined to her body. In this collection, the natural fabrics typical of the company have a special texture as they were finished by the sun rays through reed masks. The energy of the sun burned the fabrics just as passion burns and consumes the human being. In the course of a year, linens and cottons were literally left to burn in the sun in the quest for a strongly wanted look sought by the designer Vittoria Formuso who worked on the reed panels.

Another element that has to be created using to fire is pottery, of which Grottaglie near Taranto, Italy, where Vittoria comes from, is a big important production centre and where the brilliant red hearts in the photo shoot were made through a ceramic magical process that combines materials and natural materials and elements.
