Art Exhibitions : Monet , Turin

A daring way of seeing things.

Monet’s Impressionism will be alive again under the shadow of the Mole Antonelliana in Turin thanks to an exhibition at the Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, which is already predicted that will attract a record number of visitors. Forty masterpieces will leave their habitual home, the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, and be transferred for four months to Italy in order to make locals and tourists experience the magic of a painter who made history. The Parisian museum of modern art, which houses the most important collection of works by Claude Monet, granted an outstanding loan. The truly special exhibition documents the career of the master and highlights its most significant moments, thanks to which the artist is considered the father of Impressionism. Particularly relevant is the loan of works never before exhibited in Italy like, for example, the large central fragment of “Le déjeuner sur l’herbe”, a cornerstone in Monet’s journey for the formulation of a new, bold conception of en plain air painting and a crucial step towards Impressionism. Created in 1866, the painting refers to the famous ‘Le déjeuner sur l’herbe’ masterpiece by Edouard Manet and was never completed or exhibited. The show is produced by Skira that took care of organisation and promotion as well as the publication of an exhibition catalog that promises to be of great scientific value thanks to the quality of the iconic works on display such as the ‘Essai de figures en plein air: Femme à l’umbels tour vers droite’, ‘La cathédrale de Rouen. Le portail, temps gris’ and ‘Londres, le Parlement’.
