Pugnale & Nyleve, a tribute to the poet Gabriele D’Annunzio

On the centenary of the accident, which took place on January 16, 1916 and caused the loss of the right eye of the great poet Gabriele D’Annunzio, eyewear brand Pugnale & Nyleve and the Vittoriale degli Italiani Foundation, created the “Sufficit Animus” glasses, in a limited edition of 111 pieces, because 11 was the king of numbers for D’Annunzio.

A classic round spectacle, the preferred model and the type worn by the author of “Alcyone”. A special combination of steel and acetate provides the best interpretation of the Italian elegance of the man, who was both a style icon and the leading character of a life story that is still fascinating and unique today. “Sufficit Animus”, embellished with 18K gold plating engraved with Oriental motifs, with their craftsmanship and Made in Italy technology, well portray all the aesthetic admiration that the poet felt for Japan. The exclusive glasses, details of which are made of genuine leather, feature the screen-printed signature of the great writer inside of the frame, by the right lens. An important tribute to the artist, to commemorate the fateful plane crash in Grado which caused the partial blindness of D’Annunzio, who since that time chose for himself the nickname of ‘Purblind Seer’. But what links the Italian eyewear brand to the poet? It is simple to say: the vanguard, the pursuit of beauty, the Italian essence and spirit.

Excellence that is Made in Italy, research and innovation: these are the values that drove the Vittoriale degli Italian Foundation to choose Pugnale & Nyleve to make a pair of glasses in honour of the poet-soldier. To celebrate this tribute, there will be a dedicated event on February 11 at the Vignale residence in Milan, where the Vittoriale Foundation president Giordano Bruno Guerri will deliver a eulogy speech.
