s/s Haute Couture 2016 Bal d’été

Bal d’été
There is all the lightness of a dance in this new effusion of haute couture collections, starting with the splendid Ville Lumère, then its next destination… Rome, the magnificent. A recurring dance theme is denoted along the runways, alluding to classical ballet and modern. The most fitting dress for a grandiose ball is chosen, while envisioning sumptuous parties at the Plaza Hotel in New York, with Truman Capote as host. Where divine creatures, adorned with jewels and unforgettable smiles, are clad in haute couture. Swirls in duchess satin, ready to envelop. Necklines leave shoulders bare, revealing impeccable décolletés powdered afresh. Capes, short or endless, billow like wings of ethereal lace and airy voile, perfect as a wrap, if essential. Long dusters imitate dressing gowns over brocade body suits and mermaid dresses. Masks propped on faces, conceal emotions. From lightness to weightlessness, the ball gown is increasingly impalpable and sheathes an au courant Duncan… becoming a tunic with a hint of pleats – remember Fortuny? – liberating the body, its movement, and its expressing itself with femininity. What follows is a profusion of petals and, so, it is transformed into a tutu, one that would have been adored for a superb arabesque by Anna Pavlova, the famous Russian ballerina to whom a scrumptious treat of meringue, cream, and berries was once dedicated, a breath of sweetness. The dress is an effluvium of delicately romantic transparencies, a perfect Paris-Moscow connection, where tulle is retained in its lavish exuberance by many tiny stitches, to celebrate the savoir-faire of the main première… true treasures of an atelier. Let the dances begin …
