Standing Ovation

Antonio D’Errico. To evaluate how diff erent steps of a creative journey can lead to a more or less defnite goal is a difficult and fascinating task, especially because, more often than not, reaching the point of arrival, if one even exists, is not a goal for an artist but a limit. This is what transpired from a conversation with the talented designer Nicola D’Errico, the creative director of the haute couture collection who has now taken the reins of the newly formed bridal range, which debuted this season with the same forward-looking, humble and sophisticated approach used for creating the red carpet gowns. After the resounding success of the haute couture collections and the numerous requests from an increasingly demanding clientele, the natural next step was, as the designer revealed, to think about bridal wear. This is why the instantly desirable new venture was born. It has quickly received acclaim and positive feedback thanks to an inspiration derived directly from the ingenious creativity and stylistic freedom of the late Sixties and from references to designers such as Yves Saint Laurent who used to say that “what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it.” It looks like Nicola is on the same wavelength. His clothes are created with the aim of enhancing the feminine silhouette and rewarding those who wear them. They trigger mechanisms typically associated with great couturiers, who are able to break away from the group and address the creative process in an individual way. The result is a cool and contemporary collection, with a strong style content far way from established norms. Each single step of the production is carried out in Italy, the only place, as confirms Nicola, for involvement and synergy between manufacturers and companies capable to provide an authentic Made in Italy.
