Wallace Chan Book

Dream Light Water

The world of jewellery designer Wallace Chan is lush and imaginative, inhabited by iridescent insects, floating dragonflies, inscrutable mythological creatures. The infinite play of reflections, of colours, of light weaves a syncretic aesthetics based at the confluence point of Western and Asian cultures in Hong Kong, Chang’s birthplace. The grace with which Chan creates expresses the very best of his Zen philosophy, for which realism is nothing but the best means for abstraction. His masterful craft is due to a very long experience started when he was 17 and to his constant innovating, which also led to the conception of the ‘Wallace Cut’, a unique carving and cutting technique. Recently published by Rizzoli, the ‘Wallace Chan: Dream Light Water’ book by Wallace Chan and Juliet W. De La Rochefoucauld is the first illustrated monograph dedicated to the master. Extraordinary close up photographs, capable of emphasising details, materials, technical innovations, are used to illustrate eighty-six of his magnificent jewels.
